Philippines
This information is intended to be read in conjunction with Credit for Prior Learning in the Education of Registered Nurses.
Most students enter university in the Philippines after only ten years of schooling so that the first years of higher education are considered to be more like years eleven and twelve of secondary school in Australia. On available information, the standard course taught in all education institutions in the Philippines is not considered to permit significant progress towards achievement of the Australian National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse.
There are some high standard universities in the Philippines. These are listed as "Higher Education, Section 1" by AEI-NOOSR. However, even at these universities, the nursing curriculum is considered not to be at the standard required in Australia.
All nursing graduates from the Philippines, if registered in that country, must undertake further study as provided in Category Two of the Nurses and Midwives Board guidelines.
Consideration under Category Four may be given to persons who have studied courses at institutions identified by AEI-NOOSR as "Higher Education, section 1" without also being listed in a second category such as "Higher Education, section 2" or "Technical and Vocational Education". However, it would not be appropriate for nursing graduates to undertake less study in Australia than would be provided in Category Two in the Nurses and Midwives Board Guidelines.
